Bio

Dick Holthuis was born in the Netherlands in 1972 and grew up in an environment where photography played an important role from an early age. After secondary school, he attended a specialised photography programme, where he developed a strong foundation in both the technical and artistic aspects of the profession.

After completing his studies, Dick began his career as an industrial and commercial photographer at his father’s photography studio. There, he gained broad photographic experience and developed a strong fascination with architecture, design, engineering and the stories behind an image.

His passion for the world of yachting grew naturally from his Dutch background. Raised in a country intrinsically connected to water and maritime life, he became fascinated by the combination of design, engineering, craftsmanship and the freedom that a yacht represents. Yacht photography has since become one of his key areas of expertise, and he now works internationally for shipyards, designers, yacht owners and other professionals within the maritime industry.

In 2008, Dick established his own studio. Since then, he has travelled extensively around the world for a wide range of clients and special projects. His work encompasses yacht photography, architecture, interiors, industrial and commercial photography.

For Dick, technology is never an end in itself. He sees modern photographic technology as a means of translating his vision into images with the greatest possible precision. His strength lies in combining technical expertise with a strong sense of composition and a keen eye for light, materials and detail.

Ultimately, Dick sees photography as a form of art. In his own words:
